Five Things that Companies Should Stop Doing with Smartphones

The year 2020 was not as good as it could be due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was a great and quite important year for smartphone manufacturers. They launched various smartphones with improved features and durability. We got some 5G smartphones as well, but there are a few things that I don’t like on smartphones, and I think smartphone companies should stop doing those things with their flagships. They are:

Adding 5G on the End of Device’s Name

Well, everyone would love to see smartphones receive a 5G network, but companies add 5G at the name of a device’s model name. For example, Verizon adds “UW 5G” on its smartphones so that consumers can know they have support for the 5G network. Nokia also did the same thing with the “Nokia 8 V 5G UW.” I don’t like this idea and think that the device’s name sounds better without adding 5G or 5G UW.

Using Plastic/Glastic on Expensive Smartphones

Well, we don’t have any issue with plastic body smartphones until or unless they are cheaper or not too expensive. However, some companies use glastic on their high-end smartphones. For example, Samsung offers a glastic body with Samsung Galaxy Note 20 which costs $1,000. So if a device costs $1,000, it will be better to provide a premium look and high-end specs.

Useless 2MP Cameras

One of the latest and most popular trends is to have multiple camera setups on smartphones, and it’s a good idea. We can use different cameras for different purposes, like to capture a wide-angle view; we can use a wide-angle camera. We even get a camera for autofocus, a macro lens, etc. However, companies have adopted the strategy of giving a 2MP rear camera to make it a quad camera setup. Well, it’s completely pointless. There is no use for that 2MP camera. It can’t perform well. So it will be better if companies add high-resolution cameras instead of 2MP ones or make a tri rear camera setup instead.

Slow Charging

The companies such as Xiaomi and OnePlus are already offering devices with 65W or 100W+ fast charging. The devices are Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and OnePlus 8T. However, some companies still offer some flagships without fast charging support, such as Google Pixel 5, Motorola Edge Plus, and more. Most smartphone manufacturers are already offering smartphones with fast charging support, and some are working on it. So we can hope that in the upcoming years, we will have almost all the smartphones with fast charging support.

Fast charging degrades the battery capacity after some time; it’s a drawback of a smartphone with fast charging support. Let’s see when the manufacturers find their solution.

Bad Update Commitment

Companies like Google and Samsung commit that they will offer guaranteed three-year updates for their flagships’ Android versions. However, there are plenty of companies that are not committed to software updates. Everyone can’t switch their smartphones in months or every year. In this case, software updates are crucial. So it will be great if other companies also commit to their flagships’ software updates for a longer time, such as three years or more.

These are all the major things that companies have been doing for a long time, and I think they should stop doing so. However, a few companies like Xiaomi focus on rebranding a lot, which is also not a good thing. Sometimes, it’s necessary to rebrand a smartphone, and it’s good, but they are doing it a lot.

That’s all for this article. I hope you liked the information given above. Please keep in mind everything mentioned in this article before going to buy a new smartphone. Thank you.
